About Us

Church History

Forest Baptist Church is nestled in the historic area of Newburg in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s called “Forest” because its first congregants, who were slaves, met in the forest near the current church location. These worship services took place away from the slave master’s eye in order to worship the true Master.

Being a religious woman, Eliza Tevis helped establish the Forest Baptist Church, the community’s congregation, in 1867.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Forest Baptist Church as a local body of believers, connected to a global body of believers, is to follow the example set by the Apostles and the early church. We strive to do this by concentrating all of our efforts to be obedient to the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19, which says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Our purpose is not to gather together for meaningless religion but rather to fellowship together out of sincere devotion and obedience to God. As we gather, we gather with the purpose of being equipped and encouraged in order that we might exhaust our gifts and resources for the Glory of God, and fulfill our mission by telling a dying world about our living Savior and to help those who are in need.

OUR MISSION

To Make, Mark, and Mature Disciples for Christ from Newburg to the Nations.

2 Ways to Live...

The Bible tells us that each of us despite all of the diversity that we can find here on earth only has two ways that we can choose to live! That’s right, only two ways. The first way a person can choose to live is apart from God, rebelling against His purpose for mankind. The second way a person can choose to live is by submitting themselves to God; thereby choosing to live in harmony with Him.

Only one way leads to eternal satisfaction in God. The other way leads to eternal separation from God. Again, there are only two ways to live and each of us must choose. We at Forest Baptist Church want to help you make the right decision.

What We Believe...

We believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and is the basis for any statement of faith. The church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of “The Baptist Faith and Message 2000.” We band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to those who are lost. The ordinances of the Church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
